Name Changes

From Single Mormon Female to Single Daughter of God

Last year, President Russell M. Nelson asked members of the Church to stop referring to the Church or to themselves by the nickname “Mormon.”  The Church has been undergoing a substantial transformation as a result. LDS.org is now ChurchofJesusChrist.org.  The Mormon Tabernacle Choir is now the Choir at Temple Square.  The list is long, and I have also seen other members of the Church updating their personal blogs and brands, too.

I thought long and hard about what to do with my blog.  I love SingleMormonFemale.com.  It’s a great brand that says so much with three simple words.  But my blog is about more than being a great brand.  It’s about what it means to me to be a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and I believe what the prophet is asking us to do is important and meaningful.  I ultimately decided that when I knew how to respond to his request, it would probably come to me in much the same way as the whole idea for Single Mormon Female originally came to me.

Yesterday, that moment finally came.  My mind and heart have grappled with the question in the background for the past several months, and yesterday, as I was working on something else, “Single Daughter of God” popped into my head.  It’s perfect.  In some ways, it’s even better than Single Mormon Female because people will be less likely to confuse it with a dating site.  It expresses what ultimately is the core of my identity–my divine DNA as a spirit daughter of my Heavenly Father and a spiritual daughter, and disciple, of Jesus Christ.

I haven’t used my blog well the past couple of years, but I am working on changing that.  I hope you will see the name change as a new beginning in several ways and come with me as I pick up this journey once more.
